This January I traveled to Colorado for an epic week of climbing all over the state. Joined by my good friend Russell, here is a collection of images from our adventure.
Day One: Russell and I met up with our good friend Sophia and climbed this amazing gully in Tenmile Canyon called Three Steps. Here is Sophia and Russell working their way over the first step.
Day Two: Russell and I returned to Tenmile Canyon, this time with a new objective. We climbed a longer, much stepper gully high into the Canyon.
Day Four: After a “rest” day skiing at Copper Mountain Russ and I ventured to a subrange outside of Leadville to attempt a longer, easy gully. We ended up soloing almost the entire thing. Too much snow and not enough ice, but man was it beautiful! Here is Russ taking a wizz in one of the most scenic locations of his life!
Day Six: After two long days of bus rides, hitchhiking and driving Russ and I arrived at our new home in Ouray, CO. Instead of staying in a hotel, we opted to rent a uHaul van and live in the back. Transportation and lodging for the price of one!
Day Seven: Ouray is like ice climbing heaven. We spent most of our first day just trying to get oriented in the park. There is ice EVERYWHERE!
Day Eight: We capped off the week by climbing Berserker, one of the longest, steepest and most aesthetically pleasing lines in Ouray. Here I am, fighting the pump, midway up the route.
Day Nine: Even the airport in Colorado is stunning. It sure was a bummer to leave, but it didn’t hurt to have this amazing sunrise to send us home!
